Google Adsense

I thought I`d try a new template for a new start for the New Year. I do like it, but stuff keeps getting squashed up. I`m not too sure why yet, but I`ll keep looking.
Anyway, Google Adsense. I`m trying my best to get to grips with it. But how on earth does anyone make money from it?

The Finale to Lost - Series one

What a great end to series one. Who are those men who took Walt off in the boat? Where were they taking him? Back to the Island? And what was that wisp of smoke thing that tried to drag John Locke away?
The best bit though was the joke were the non-essential character starting questioning why the main characters were the only ones who seemed to matter? And why hasn't Hurley lost any weight? And then he blew himself up with dynamite - LOL! He was questioning the basic flaws in the plot in the way we all do, and he got his reward. Cant wait for the next series of LOST which is coming to the UK in the Spring.

Evie breaks her arm

After having the cardiac catheters last week, Evie went back to school yesterday - Monday. But I cant believe what has happened now. This evening after their dinner, the twins went upstairs in my Mum`s house to watch CBeebies on the little television which she has in her bedroom, sitting on her bed. The next thing, Evie comes down crying and holding her arm funny. When she wouldn't stop crying, we decided we`d better get her to the children`s hospital to get checked out in A and E.

And Yes! She`s broken her arm. I really cant believe it. They`ve let her come home with a sling on, but I`ve got to go back at half ten to get a plaster cast fitted. It's unbelievable. Poor Evie!!

Sunday, January 08, 2006

We`re home again after Evie's latest admission for cardiac catheters. I must say, although the outcome was good - Eve`s pulmonary artery was in a better state than the cardiologists suspected - Eve was terrible while she was in hospital. She screamed, fought and kicked during every procedure. She refused to have an ECG and chest Xray and other vital tests. She was frankly terrified at everything which made this admission so much more stressful. She used too be such a compliant little girl, never flinching while getting poked and prodded, but something has changed. I think its after having a bad time when she some teeth out a few months ago. I think its put her off hospitals and doctors for life.
But, in spite of everything, she`s back to normal now - fighting with Ellie as usual. Some things never change.

Evie has cardiac catheters

Poor Evie. Back in hospital yet again. This time its for cardiac catheters - one of her arteries has become blocked again - or so they thought. When they got her in theatre, it wasn't as bad as the medics thought and they didn't need to use the balloons to unblock.
Evie has been terrified during this hospital admission. During all the numerous admissions for various illness and procedures - including three huge heart operations, palate surgery, two bouts of meningitis, pneumonia etc. - she has always been so brave. But this time she`s screamed and kicked at every little intervention and has totally refused and ECG and chest Xray. I think this is due to the bad experience she had a few months ago when she went into hospital for two teeth out. After the extractions, she cried for about two hours - probably due to a lighter than usual anaesthetic. Its a shame, but I think a precedent has been set now. I hope she`s not always going to be scared of hospitals and doctors!

Joy Journals

It seems that happiness researchers in the US are promoting the use of happiness journals. These are diaries where we note down little things that make us feel good, things we find funny - or just events that make us glad to be alive. It seems that happiness is infectious - writing all these positive things down can make us more optimistic - and can inspire us to exercise more, achieve more of our goals, and can even help us enjoy better health. (This is verified by trials carried out at the university of Calfifornia, by a leading gratitude researcher, Dr.Robert Emmons) Never heard of a gratitude researcher before!) But, Its certainly worth a try.
To make a start, try making a list of 10 things that make you smile.

Happy New Year

New Years Advice - Saw this and thought you might like it!

DON'T waste money on expensive ipods. Simply think of your favourite tune and hum it. If you want to "switch tracks", simply think of another song you like and hum that instead.
CINEMA goers: Please have consideration for pirate DVD viewers by having a p*ss before the film starts.
RAPPERS: Avoid having to say 'know what I'm sayin' all the time by actually speaking clearly in the first place.
DON'T waste money on expensive paper shredders to avoid having your identity stolen. Simply place a few dog turds in the bin bags along with your old bank statements.
WORRIED that your teeth will be stained after a heavy night drinking red wine? Simply drink a bottle of white wine before going to bed to remove the stains.
SOLDIERS: Invest in a digital camera to avoid a court appearance after a trip to Truprint
.MURDERERS: Need to dispose of a body? Simply parcel it up and post it to yourself via Royal Mail. You will never see it again.
BURGLARS: When fleeing from the police, run with your right arm sticking out at 90degrees, wrapped in a baby mattress in case they set one of their dogs on you.
EMPLOYERS: Avoid hiring unlucky people by immediately tossing half the CVs into the bin.
BUTCHES: When listening to your favourite CD, simply turn up the sound to the volume you desire; then turn it down three notches. This will save your partner from having to do it.
GAMBLERS: For a new gambling opportunity, try sending £50 to yourself by Royal Mail.
BANGING: two pistachio nutshells together gives the impression that a very small horse is approaching.
DRIVERS: If a car breaks down or stalls in front of you, beep your horn and wave your arms frantically. This should help the car start and send them on their way.
PREVENT burglars stealing everything in the house by simply moving everything in the house into your bedroom when you go to bed. In the morning, simply move it all back again.
CAR thieves: Don't be discouraged when nothing is on view. All the valuables may be hidden in the glove box or under a seat.
MOTORISTS: Avoid getting prosecuted for using your phone whilst driving. Simply pop your mobile inside a large shell and the police will think you are listening to the sea.
SHOES last twice as long if only worn every other day.
HUSBANDS boil an egg to perfection without costly egg timers by popping the egg into boiling water and driving away from your home at exactly 60 mph. After 3 miles, phone your wife and tell her to take the egg out the pan.
McDONALD'S: Make your brown carrier bags green in colour so they blend in with the countryside after they've been thrown out of car windows.
WOMEN: Don't waste energy faking orgasms. Most men couldn't give a sh*t anyway and you could use the saved energy to hoover the house afterwards

Narnia

We finally got around to going to see Narnia today. We took the twins, who had been asking to go since it came out, so as it was good old Orange Wednesday, we went along for out two for ones.
It was very good - beautifully shot and what fantastic special effects. But the girls were a bit scared and jumped onto our knees and hid their little faces in quite a few bits. Dolly was pretty upset when Aslam got shaved and killed, and was saying Poor Yiyon, Poor Yiyon. This is very good language for Evie, as she has a severe speech and palate problem - but she is a sensitive little soul, and very kind and thoughtful. Anyway, all ended well as the Yiyon came back to life as you probably know and it was a happy ending. As a childrens film must be.
Now, I`d love to take them to see Harry Potter, but son reckons that this film would be too frightening for them.

RIP Mary

Sad to say, our neighbour Mary died last night. We were waiting for friends to turn up for a meal, and Tony noticed the flashing lights of the ambulance and paramedic car at the house oppersite. We saw poor Mary being carried out on a stretcher, and later that night heard that she had died. Dont know the details, but she has been hitting the bottle pretty heavily for the last few years. (This may not be relevent, but possibly is) Suffice to say, it was a sad thing, as she was a nice woman and was only about 59. RIP Mary ! We will miss you

After Christmas - poem

After Christmas

After Christmas
Fat and bloated we sit
Amongst discarded packaging
Of toys, already forgotten
And chocolate from selection packs
Piled high
Too much for even greedy mouths
To consume

And still we drink with festive cheer
The dregs of whisky
And sparkling wine
Its sparkle depleted

And eat
The sausage rolls
We cannot waste

But where is the renewal of our spiritual joy?
The human warmth
The tears of gratitude for a single toy
Forever loved
A precious gift
And not a moments diversion
Until a newer, sharper thrill
Arrives to take our eye

After Christmas
We wait
And hope the coming year
Will bring us the renewal we crave
Our hopes and aspirations reborn
Our resolve for better lives
Reaffirmed in resolutions
For the coming joyous year.

A lovely day

You know, in the end, after all the usual chaos, we had a pretty  good christmas day. I actually got some beautiful presents this year - a gorgeous jacket, new coat, gold necklace and bracelet, silver ring, new Oasis CD, Les Miserable DVD. Tony (my partner) Mum and the kids were made up with their pressies too especially my son, who got a new 60 GB Ipod. It is fantastic. I wonder if they`ll come down in price by next year? I wouldnt mind one myself.
The twins naturally got loads and loads of toys - Evie , having a bit of a thing about My Little Pony, seemed to love her toy ponies best. Ellie was mad about her Cinderella doll and the wooden bunk beds Mum got them to sleep in. I wont go on any more, cos I`ll only bore you - thats if your still reading - but suffice to say, we all had a good day.
Hope you all had an equally good time. And best wishes to you all, once again. X

Merry Christmas

A hectic christmas Eve! Shopping! Wrapping! Cooking! Not much fun really.........
But it was nice going to church! We went to the christingle service and it was lovely. Especially when they turned out all the lights in the church and everyone sang Away in a Manger in the candle light. All the children looked so sweet and Dolly and Molly were gorgeous in their christmas coats and hats.
I hope you all have a lovely day tomorrow.
Take it easy

Martin Cooper - seven failed marriages thanks to Liverpool FC

A man called Martin Cooper has just seen the failure of his seventh marriage thanks to his obsessive devotion to Liverpool FC. His wives, Rosemary, Patricia, Barbara, Rosemary no. 2, Carol, Davina and Tina all eventually got sick of being relegated to second place by Martin. Mr. Cooper, who lives in Cambridge, also named his son (with Davina) with all eleven members of the 1986 first team squad. Fantastic!
At the age of 57, he is also a contender for Radio Five Live`s, Britain`s most obsessive fan. Martin, who is also honorary chairman of the Cambridgeshire Reds, the Liverpool fans group he co-founded 15 years ago, will now be Walking Alone.

Finally the end of term

Finally, the end of term is here. The kids are getting excited as christmas is getting so close - well the little ones are - son is 14 now and doesnt believe in Santa anymore. LOL. Just have to break the news to T now! Anyway, Dolly had to go for her weekly speech therapy in the local hospital, so missed most of her last morning. The therapist said she`s doing well, but I cant see it myself. She has DiGeorge Syndrome (or VCFS) and has palate issues. But basically she cant talk - or at least cant make many legible words, although her understanding is good. Today we worked on the sounds "Pe", "Pa" and "poo", said in a whisper with her tongue pushed out. She struggles with this but the ST tries to make it into a game.

We managed to get her back to school for her last hour and picked the excited twins up at 1.00pm, clutching lots of mysterious bits of paper, sweets and choocolates. We stopped off on the way home to give the lovely lollipop man, Dave, a predictable box of Roses. He seemed really pleased. What a nice man he is - always shows concern when Dolly goes in for operations.
Son arrived back some time later, after an end of term celebration at Pizza Hut with his mates. Even T was home early from work today - off on a booze up with his football mates, round town. So no jumping out of bed early in the morning. Think I`ll luxuriate in my comfy bed until the monsters come running in sometime in the morning. MMMMmmmmmmm!

A bit of retail Therapy

I`ve been indulging in a bit of retail therapy today. Fantastic! A good day in town wandering around the shops - AND - picked my own christmas present from my partner. Well, at least you get what you really want that way. So, I chose a gorgeous jacket from Lewis` and a knitted coat with a fur collar from Principals. Now - I just need an opportuntity to get out to wear them.
So, I`m back home now - feet up - very self-satisfied. I think I`ve bought all my presents now - most of my cards done - I`ve a few more to make though - AND - I`ve even done some wrapping. Pretty good going for the most unorganised person in the universe. This Christmas lark is a doddle - Hmmmm. Shouldnt have said that. I`ll probably burn the turkey now.
One blot on the horizon though - the washing machine broke last night!!!!!! I dont understand it cos we only got it in May, and its a goodun` - obviously not that good though! The man is supposed to be coming out on Thurday morning, so lets hope he does. What to do about the mounds of washing in the mean-time!

The Great Christmas Card Debate

Yes -this was the great debate between my mother and myself today.
It all started innocently enough when Dennis, the bald fellow next door but two, a man in his sixties, popped a christmas card through my mother`s letterbox.
Now, the aforementioned card, was of the flimsy, paper variety, with a very attractive picture of a badger on the front. Well, my mother thought it was a skunk, but I assured her that I didnt think they made christmas cards with skunks on them. My mother`s main beef with the card however, was not the skunk, but the fact that the christmas card was cheap and nasty, and in her opinion - the type of card one send someone is the measure of esteem that is felt for that person. In other words - if you only send nice cards to people that you like. But in this day and age, good quality cards can be purchased pretty cheaply in multi-packs and in her opinion, there is no need to send anyone a skunky card.
However - my argument was that perhaps Dennis sends everyone cheap, flimsy cards, and its probably nothing personal. After all, not everyone sets such great store in cards. In fact, as I pointed out, my uncle never sends anyone a card as its firmly against his principles . My mother`s answer to this was that she`d rather have no card at all that a cheap, paper card.
When I returned to my house later - I live next door to my mother - I was astonished to see skunky blue-tacked to the centre of the living room mirror.
Ha ha ha ha! Very funny mother!
